Tough decision ...

I will not be attending Meet & Greet 10.

AWOL

Conrad, without you at the M&G might as well cancel the event. Hope all is well with you.

^ Appeciate the seniment Tom ...

All is well with me personally. Frankly, the decision is based on the what has been happening at border crossings since 'the donald' occupied the Oval Office. ;-(

Hope we will stay in touch here and on FB.

Anje is sad....

As am I. We seem to be dropping like flies. We will miss you and hope all is well.

We really need to get our passports and invade Canada!

^ Tim & Anje ...

I am also sad, but all is well personally. As I explained in an email to Will, I just cannot abide the 'trump', ' fuck the world' attitude that seems to have taken over south of the 49th. Just don't feel 'the welcome' anymore

You are welcome here anytime. Just give me notice so I can put my 'dust bunny's' out of their misery. LOL

Border problems?

What's up Conrad? Did you get your visa pulled?

We will miss you.

M & G X

Hard choice, I have decided this years M & G is out of the question. #1 I'm not sure if my brand new right knee would be in top shape for a 1021 mile trek. #2 I have just ordered new Pella windows for the front of our home, that's half the cost of what it cost to build our house 42 years ago.
This would have been my fourth M&G, I will truly miss all of your company & will be thinking of you all that week.
Everyone please be careful, safe & above all have a tremendous time.

Carpe Diem

Tom B.

Sorry, Tom

I'm sure that was a hard choice. Right now I'm just praying something doesn't come up that makes the trip out of reach for Linda and I as well. With the exception of a kidney transplant anything else will be a heartbreaker--we really need this trip this year.

If it makes you feel any better you did well to get 42 years from your Pella windows--mine were shot at 37. :)

Bryan

It's only an old man's bike if you ride it like one.

Windows.

Built house in 75 replaced sash windows in 80 with Pella,, beinging the cheap ass I was I didn't get clad windows. so mine are 37 years old also.
Install date is May 1st. Just this morning the project manager was here at 8am to take the exact measurements. The main decision about the cancellation for M&G is my knee situation, had it done on Feb 1oth, I just don't think I would be recovered enough for that distance (on the bike anyway). Think of you often & pray that a match becomes available in short order.

Windows

I bit the bullet 2 years ago on windows. I went with the Pella Fiberglass line. I don't know if I will ever save enough energy to pay for them but the house sure is quieter and a little less breezy on a windy day.

Vinyl

If we had a bigger house like yours, Larry, we'd have done something a little more high-end like fiberglass or wood clad windows like Marvin. But we have a 1,600 sq. ft. home that is in a neighborhood built in the late 70's. The homes here are starter homes in Ames--about $200k-$220k in this expensive college town. Nobody is doing anything but vinyl windows when we walk the neighborhood. We're happy with the performance of ours so far and we did all the 5 big windows, including the front bay, for about $7,000. I've got 3 standard double-hungs on the north side that are in decent shape--they've got aluminum storms I'll replace when we side the house.

So sad ...

As of yesterday, will will not have the pleasure of seeing Brian & Vahnia and Bob & Bert in Maggie Valley. Two Spark Plugs of the fun & frolic we enjoy so much. Bummer! :-(

It was a very hard decision

We battled with the decision for a about a month, before we agreed to just cancel it before we changed our minds again.
I will be starting a new job the middle of this month, so that too factored into the decision.
Please post lots of pics, we will for sure miss everyone.

M&G 10

Sorry I am going to miss it. A conflict with my daughter's concert in Seattle. Some other time. Have a wonderful time.

Richard

I've been looking

at the map--I think we are going to drop down into N. Georgia around Chattanooga and spend Sunday/Sunday night in northern Georgia. I've got a map from this outfit and the scenery is magnificent!

Name of the place

Is Mount Valley Building the name of the place? Nothing comes up when I search for it. Whats the address?

Carpe Diem

Smoky Falls Lodge

The name of the place is Smoky Falls Lodge (2550 Soco Road, (US Hwy 19), Maggie Valley, NC 28751). Looks like a nice place. The Wheels of Time museum is just a short walk from the lodge.

Updated list

The room list has been updated. Get them while you can!

Wow, everyone is on the ball this morning!

Cliff called me a few minutes ago all excited after he booked our room and there were 18 people in front of him today. Awesome! Looks like we're all excited about the trip! We can't wait to see everyone and the beautiful scenery around that area. Counting the days!

M&G 10

I'm not sure why, but I'm extra excited about this trip. I started planning in June. This is going to be a long, long wait.

Tim

Same with us, Tim.....

Kat is so thrilled that she suggested we add another night to our stay there. So, we booked Sunday as well. Looks like the Coutures and the Lathrops did too. Anyone who has the extra time and/or money should join in. Why not get started a day or two earlier? Also, it makes the wait just that much shorter.

Routes

Using all major highways it would be about 1022 miles for me. Omaha to St Louis, St. Louis to Nashville, Nashville to Maggie Valley, or slightly longer distance for each day saving Monday for a shorter run. Mileage per day would be (guesstimate) day 1, 450mi (+ or -), day 2, 310mi (+ or -), & day 3 Mon would be about 262, (hopping for less). There never seems to be enough time for planning.

We could end up with a large posse gathering on the way down.

We're looking right at 900

We're looking right at 900 miles, but that includes an overnight with my uncle, an overnight at Mammoth Cave, and stopping at a distillery or two in KY and TN. Chrissy spent the drive home planning the route!

Will R.

Linda

found a Davita dialysis clinic in Waynesville which is nearby. I might have new parts by then but if not then I'll have options. We'll be there unless I'm under repair/recovery at the time.
