Glad to see I won't be in

Glad to see I won't be in Durango by myself. Dates proposed look good. Let's do it!.............paul

There is enough youth in the world. How about we go find a fountain of smart!!

Lodging?

Are we staying at the Siesta Motel ?

^ Too early to tell BB ...

Dates still have to be set. Siesta definitely looks like a possibility but not a sure thing at this point.

Concerning dates for this auspicious occassion ...

Knowing that they can get some cool and nasty weather in the Rocky Mountains, into June, I'll propose June 24, 25, 26, 2014.

Anyone object, or have another suggestion?

Boo Yah!

I'm on-board, Cliff. Let's pick a date and get it rollin'.

Closed...

With two thirds majority, I'm closing this poll. Durango is the obvious winner here... no hanging chads or absentee ballots.

I call for.....

Closing all polls and designate Durango the winner by acclaimation. Any one second that move? We can then lock up the hotel that Cliff and Conrad have found. That way, people can start getting organized in plenty of time for the event. Second? Anyone?

If Durango wins ....

Make reservations for the train to Silverton well in advance it books up fast . Check out The Durango Silverton Railroad it's a little pricey but the scenery is awesome !

Looks Like

a good setup for our group at the Siesta, guys--nice work. That would be awesome to have the whole motel occupied by the 1300 group. I bet we could just about fill the place right out of the gate and then overflow into the sister motel next door as more sign up. Suppose they would agree to a reduced rate across both motels?

Bryan

I'd rather be wise than smart.

Been checking out hotels...

From what I've seen the Siesta Motel looks pretty good, rate at 82.00 (w/o any negotiation yet), area to gather outside w/bbq pits, they have 21 rooms, some are 2 bedroom suites, calling them today I hope to find out more. Family owned an operated! We'd have to reserve the whole motel, that would be a first!

^ Great minds think alike Cliff ...

I also did some research and drew the same conclusion. Talked to Marilyn at the Siesta yesterday. The toll free number worked from here in Canada [a nice change from my last experience]. They'd happily book some rooms for us and her sister has the motel next door as well, if we happen to need more rooms.

I suggested we'd get back to her, probably in January.

Just talked to Marlene

Does sound very good, nice court yard with a gazebo and bbq grills. They are also on the trolley route to town , every 20min from 7am till 10pm and its free. I believe we have a keeper and easily could fill the place. Need to act soon, Dec. Asked about group rates, 82.00 is the lowest they'll go, in my searching they we're the lowest in the area.

Looks like

We'll know for sure where we're going before December is over according to Will's vote schedule. I think it's just a technicality at this point--all the momentum seems to be for Durango. Excellent choice in my opinion and a new destination for Linda and I. Looks like we can add OK, TX, NM, AZ, and UT to our "ridden" map if we try. I bet we can talk lstayner into leading a ride that will get NM, AZ, and UT covered in a day.

Bryan

I'd rather be wise than smart.

Actually Bryan....

The 4 corners region is right there close also, so you can get Utah, Colorado, Arizona and New Mexico in one stop. This area has to many things to do for 3 days. You can also go white water rafting on the Animas River which runs right through the city of Durango or rent a jeep for a day and go 4 wheelin in the mountains. We've done both and both we're unforgettable, not to mention we went in a gold mine 1 mile under ground just outside of Silverton. Damn, I'm excited let's go, now!

Geaux Tiger

You are right, Cliff...

Tons of stuff to do in Durango. I've done all those things myself and never get tired of that part of the country. I highly, highly recommend the white water rafting. And, I echo your call to, "let's go now". Can't wait.

KansasWizard

Yep

It shouldn't be hard to get all those states in on 1 ride. We'll actually get OK, TX, and NM on the way in to Durango--got my route there picked out already. Night 1 is Pratt, KS, Night 2 is Taos, NM, and then an easy day Monday into Durango.

The white water will really be running in June from the snow-melt--we missed out on rafting in Salida so we better do it this time. Gold Mine sounds fun, too! Let us know when we can reserve at the Siesta Motel, Cliff and/or Conrad--let's get this on the schedule!

Bryan

I'd rather be wise than smart.

You read my mind.....

I was looking at that exact routing myself. Pratt is a nice little town with plenty of motels. After that, the route into Taos (Guadalajara Grill, yumm) is really fun, then on up to Durango is a great ride. Maybe we could hook up in Pratt then ride together. We'll see. Addendum: I looked at my maps and mis-spoke. Liberal is the town I was really thinking about. It's about another 100 miles down the road from Pratt so probably a bit far for day one for you guys even on your Hondapottamous. Kat and I were a bit hesitant to ride all across Kansas but if we break it up a bit we will probably ride instead of tow our bikes. Still havn't decided for sure but are now leaning towards riding. I think we'd probably go for Liberal on day one which would make for a more doable day two for us old folks. We could maybe try to hook up along the way to Taos or just meet there. Either way, I bet we could convince the Neel posse to add Taos to their agenda. We could have a heck of a nice pre-event event in Taos on Sunday night then all arrive en masse on Monday. Sounds good to us especially on this frigid gloomy day here in Kansas. Just think, I played golf in a t-shirt on Tuesday now this! Brrrrrr.

KansasWizard

"Heaven for climate. Hell for the company!" Mark Twain

Yep

Pratt is about the extent of our comfortable 1-day range from Ames--500 miles. That doesn't mean we couldn't catch up to you guys in Liberal the next morning and then roll into Taos with you on Sunday. We can talk on it in Minneapolis next month. We might very well wind up crossing paths with the Neel Posse in Dalhart, TX--looks like they'd probably come in that way.

Bryan

I'd rather be wise than smart.

Wow, I'd forgotten.....

That we'll be seeing each other in about a month. We can certainly spend some time talking about routes and meet-ups, and such while we are in Minnesota. To all our brethren out there.....a bunch of us are planning to attend the Motorcycle show in Minneapolis in mid-January. Nice break from the winter blahs and a chance to see bikes, gear, and catch up on each other. Looks like about a dozen or so from this group are going. Look it up and think about attending. Should be fun.

KansasWizard

Another route

I did a direct route to Taos, NM on bing maps just for giggles. It takes us right through Sharon Springs. We could make this trip a two for the price of one. :) Might even get Roger to ride along.

ATGATT Because walking away in disgust is better than riding away in an ambulance!

Friends are family you pick up along the way.

Larry

We should

do some talking on it in Minneapolis when we're all together. Might see if Tony and Michaeleen want to ride down and stay with us Friday night and the Flatlanders can all meet up Saturday morning.

Bryan

I'd rather be wise than smart.

^ This is gittin' ta be too much fun ...

I think a hookup and small group ride together would be a hoot, as it was when we did the ride to Salida in 2010.

I'm always doing on-line research Bryan so I will [as I'm sure Cliff will], stay on top of this. Will though has to select the actual dates. Once he's done that we can get crackin'.

BTW, two more sign ups in the last couple of days. Our total number now stands at 29 warm bodies.

Nice thing about Durango

Not sure if its true, I haven't verified it, but I am told Silverton CO is only 45 minutes away. Sounds like Durango is a win for Silverton, and vice versa. I just want to ride... Friggn Snow.

TC Bob

Correct

Silverton is 44 miles and Ouray is 22 miles up the road from Silverton. To get to Silverton you ride "THE MILLION DOLLAR HIGHWAY'. Also Mesa Verde is about 50 miles. I've been to the Durango area 3x, it's my second favorite place to geaux behind the Louisiana Marsh.

+1 for Mesa Verde... that

+1 for Mesa Verde... that place is very cool... almost magical!

Well, looks like ...

Durango has taken a substantial lead. That's good I guess cause Paul says that's where he's goin' regardless. ;-)

Me too!
