M&G route

GaryTJ's picture

Ok who is coming by what route?
Lori and I are coming from Wa will be sightseeing (again) the Mt Rushmore area on Saturday and then wandering towards PDC on Sunday and Monday. We are going to be planning on getting in mid day Monday.

I was thinking it might be nice to ride in with some others if they are in the area at the same time and timing works out.

Think we gotta figured out.

It looks like were gonna make it all in one shot, in one day. Looks to be right at 500 miles. Were leaving out at 7:30am. Should make it to PDC around 6:00pm. Gonna be taking the super slab all the way up.

Depart- Burlington, KS..... 7:30am on 06/25/13
I-35 all the Ames, IA
Hwy 20 over to 13
13 to 18
18 over to Prairie Du Chien

HWY 20

Actually HWY 30 goes east out of Ames, IA. You will want to go another 40 miles north to HWY 20. Other than that it is a good route.

Bed & Breakfast

We have an open house an you are more than welcome to spend the night and ride the rest of the way to PDC together. I would even grill a steak if you like. Or I could take you to McDonalds like I did Paul. :)

Twist my arm, why don't you :-)

I think we can do that. With Paul's endorsement and all, it is too hard to pass up.

I will PM or call you as it gets closer to get the address. Phone # still ending in 53?
We will be leaving Rapid city area on Saturday afternoon and wandering that way and expect to get to your area Sunday afternoon sometime.
Will that work?

Sounds like a plan

Rapid City is a 650 mile ride so you best leave early. The best way across SD is on I90 then I29 down to I80.

650 miles

We will leave rapid city area sometime Saturday afternoon and probably stop for the night around Mitchell, SD, Maybe even as far as Sioux Falls.
that way we won't be in to big of a hurry to arrive on Sunday and we can hit the Loess Hills Scenic Byway before hopping onto I-80

Loess Hills

I can give you the best roads to go through on. The marked roads aren't always paved. If you can make Sioux Falls or even Sioux City it will give you a lot more time in the Hills. I will try to get you a route of the best roads to ride.

Paved

Yah, I remember the last time through there I had a major detour when the GPS wanted to take me down a dirt road. :-)

That and corn, corn and more corn is what I remember the most about IA

Hey Gary - I can attest -

Hey Gary - I can attest - the Stayner B&B is a nice place. They also feed pretty good!....(sometimes). I spent the night with them on the way to Lake George...grilled steaks for dinner and Dixie made cinamon rolls for breakfast. Pretty hard to beat....paul

We could certainly slow the aging process down if it had to work its way through Congress.

Would love ta join ya ...

but somebody has to attack from the east and I was picked from a host of applicants. ;-) So we got the east, south and west covered. Now we need a force to attack from the north! Anybody? 26 days till blast off.

North

We will be leaving from PDC, going to the north, fleeing the pursuit of the enemy's we have made.
Heading west across the Canadian wilderness where it is said you can watch your dog run away for 3 days, in search of the a back way in to our own home state.
