1300tourer.com Newsletter #2
Greetings fellow members!
I know this newsletter is coming on the heels of the last one. The intention is to get this thing out on a regular basis and keep everyone up-to-date.
I have chosen to sponsor a local charity this year at our Meet & Greet! This will give us an opportunity to make a difference and affect some young lives that could use a little support. To find out more about the Smoky Mountain Children's Home, please visit http://www.smch.cc/ for more information. I wanted to find a charity that I could trust,... and know that each dollar was being well spent - and I found just that place.
After our picnic we will ride to the childrens home were we will hand deliver the pledges that are raised on 1300tourer.com. We will be given a tour of the facilities, and some of the kids will come have a look at our superior motorcycles. Obviously it is important for us to explain why these motorcycles are much better than the competitors. ;) As well, these future Vstar Owners will probably have some questions for us.
If you are interested in making a donation - please visit the online store at 1300tourer.com and have a look at our Caring Heart patches. These patches are sold for $2 and a pledge. The $2 covers the cost for me to make the patch and mail it to you. The pledge, a check made out to Smoky Mountain Childrens Home, should be mailed to 1300tourer.com. Once I receive the pledge, you patch will be mailed out and the pledge amount will be added to the running total now found on the home page. Different levels are available... please choose the one that best fits your budget. If you can't make the Meet & Greet, but would like to help, please do! Feel free to include a note to the kids as well... these will also be hand delivered to the home.
In other news, we have selected a host hotel. I just need to iron out the details in the contract, so I can't release all of the details yet. As far as the room and rate details however, I am happy to share. 2 rooms rates will be available to us. One rate will include 2 king beds, in-room jacuzzi, private balcony, satellite TV, microwave, and fridge @ $69.77 per night. The second rate will be a standard room and will include 2 double beds (or one king), satellite TV, microwave, and fridge for $45.77 per night. This obviously is preliminary until the contract is worked out.
Please keep an eye out for the 2009 Meet & Greet Patch. I am in the design phase and hope to have something everyone can be proud of in the next couple of weeks.
Yamaha has taken an interest in our 2009 Meet & Greet! I hope to have some details worked out soon, but it looks as if they will be participating.
****** HOW TO *******
Many of you have expressed interest in learning a little more about the functionality of 1300tourer.com.
For this newsletter I will cover the basic setup of a Chapter. First, check to see if there is a 1300 Chapter in your area, if not, feel free to create one. Here's how:
1. Create the Chapter by clicking "Create Content" and selecting "Chapter". This should open a new window where you will need to fill in some info.
2. Give your Chapter a Title (name). Please make is something descriptive of it's location. Fill in the description.
3. If you would like to restrict membership, you may do this in the membership requests section of the form. By default, the membership is open, meaning people can join freely (without approval).
4. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the form.
At this point your Chapter has been created and can start accepting membership! Let's create your first post that will appear on the front page of your chapter!
1. Click on the "Chapters" link on the left navigation bar.
2. This should display a list of groups. Click on the title of your group/chapter.
3. On the left navigation bar, you should now see Chapter related links. Let's "Create a Story" by clicking that link.
4. Fill in your Title and Body of the story. Something like "Welcome to our Chapter" for a title give a little information on your newly created chapter.
5. Scroll down and expand the "Publishing Options" and select "Published" and "Sticky at top of lists". The second option will keep this post at the top of your chapter page (unless you choose that option on future posts).
By creating a chapter, this will give you and your group access to a calendar, forum, image gallery, and polls for your chapter only! In future newsletters, I will detail more of the Chapter setup and management.
