Honest Question

Someone is offering an even swap to me ( never mind why) - my Vstar 1300 2007 Tourer for a 2007 Stratoliner- same mileage (@800 miles). There is nothing wrong with the Stratoliner.
Putting aside Vstar 1300 Bias... good deal or not?

Please give me your opinions quickly as I want to make a decision very soon.
BTW, the 1300 is black, the Strat is Merlot with after market pipes

Even trade?

If it is TRULY an "even trade", as everyone else has said, a no brainer. Just mileage and the air cooling has to be entered in the decision. I just LOVE my 1300, and the Strat is more than I need.

Makes you wonder...

Why anyone would want to trade straight across for a bike with less book value? Maybe your friend rode a 1300 and decided it would be worth it! If you spent a few hours on his bike, you may discover why he wants to trade. Choosing a bike always boils down to your own subjective opinion, but judged on its merits, the 1300 is tough to beat.

The resale value will be

The resale value will be much better on the Strat and they are very well balanced and handle great at low speed and a more stable ride at higher speeds. You will have to pay more for premium gas.

I'd go for it in a heartbeat also.

Depends

The Statoliner is an air cooled engine, but it is 1900 cc and worth more than the 1300. It would be a tough decision, but if it were me I'd probably do it. If the Stratoliner was liquid cooled I would probably be driving one instead of the 1300. Liquid cooling was a big reason I went with the 1300. But that 1900 cc sure would be tempting and the bike is worth more also.

Ditto what kmac said

I've ridden a Stratoliner with aftermarket pipes and loved it. Incredible torque that pulled effortlessly in every gear with a sweet sound and not bad handling. It totally fits my ideal of what a cruiser should be. About the only thing I could see you losing in that deal is gas mileage. As much as I love my 1300, I'd probably do it....things being equal.

In a heart beat

I would in a heart beat all things being equal.

Tough choice

Wow... that is a tough one. Depends on what you want. From looking at the stats, the Stratoliner is around 125 lbs more weight... engine an additional 500cc or so. Obviously if the bike is in good shape, its value is going to be more than your 1300. So I guess the question to the trader is why? Why doesn't he sell his, buy a 1300 or 1300T and pocket the leftovers?

Maybe I'm being too paranoid.

Depends on miles

I would make the trade in a heartbeat if I wasn't going to ride very much or very far. I would love to have a Strat for local cruising once in awhile. But gas is one concern, and the air cooling is another. If I were only driving 3000 to 4,000 miles a summer I would sure do it. Anything more than that I would stick with the 1300. ~ Butch
