I take it you are [were] a paratrooper [I’ll assume so]. Did my basic para course in 1965 at Rivers and Shilo.
Had a nice visit in Lethbridge in July [on my way to the Crows Nest Pass, from Rogers. AR]. Stopped in to see an old military buddy [he and I are both retired, as are most of my military pals].
Maybe we'll get to ride our silver machines together sometime.
Good to know that you are in touch and for God sake, stay safe over there.
Hi, Purchased my 2007 silver 1300 vstar tourer and live in Lethbridge,alberta.. Haven't got many miles on since I am presently employed in Kandahar, afghanistan..Sure miss my summer riding...Thanks to the website I can keep up with all the latest pertaining to our bikes..Count me in as a happy canadian owner...
my first cruiser, just coming off of a Suzuki Vstrom DL1000 - loved the Vstrom but wanted to try a cruiser after riding my friends Shadow this year on our annual "boys trip". The 'Strom felt like I could get myself into trouble, maybe a bit too fast for an old guy whose only streetbike was an '85 Honda XL600 (also a great bike but the throttle worked a lot better than the brakes). Anyway, the Vstrom IS a geat bike and if I could justify having two bikes I would still have her. I have 125k on the new girl and I love it, the 'Strom is a tall bike and I always felt a bit unstable leaning her over into the curves, the Vstar handles like a dream, nice low center of gravity and none of the "heaviness" I expected in a cruiser. Not that she looks heavy. I was considering an '08 1600 Kawasaki Vulcan Nomad which is supposed to be a great bike as well, but she looks like a truck next to the Vstar (not to knock trucks, I quite like my '04 GM 2500hd Sierra). Surprisingly the specs are almost exactly the same for the two bikes, except for the weight. Anyway, greatly and very nicely surprised by how comfortable I am on the 'Star having only spent 2 hours in the saddle, looking forward to many, many more. Have "big bars", passenger floorboards, luggage rack, and an ultimate passenger seat and backrest on order (nice to see a Canadian company out there even if they charge in US funds ;-) ). Hopefully I will get a chance to break her in before the snow flies, well actually it did last Sunday (I'm in Bragg Creek, 50k west of Calgary), but it melted as usual, probably won't be permanent for at least another weel or teo. Cheers guys, great site, love the installation instruction folks have provided, and the advice and opinions many have offered. The only thing this site seems to lack is a lot of the childish BS that you typically find on forums (and keeps you from ever returning).
Time spent in reconnaisance is never wasted.
I'm out here in Vancouver Island as well. Courtenay. Mine is a Black Cherry '08, Lindby Multibars, Stebel horn, Vista Cruise and Progressive front springs. I've drilled the airbox, tilted the windsheild and adjusted(bent) the OEM handlebar. Great ride!
Cheers, Doug
Hey Island boy, I'm pretty sure I've passed you between Courtenay and Campbell River. I just recently moved from Campbell River to the lower mainland, but I am back all the time. My girlfriend lives in Courtenay and I will be back there for the long weekend but not on my bike. We'll have to try and meet up at some point for coffee or something. I have a 07 two tone silver.
Hi.
I live in Ottawa, Ont
I have tourer (sand color) 2008 since May.
Added since: Engine guard, guard foot pegs, mustang seats, rear rack, air horn, air scoop (see blog), lowers (kawa vulcain), tilted and shortened windshield, and passenger hand bars.
hoping to pick up my black cherry '08 Vstar 1300 this Friday or Saturday, not sure if that is proper since my '04 Vstrom is going to her new owner Friday, but I can't wait. Love the 'Strom but all my buddies are on cruisers and I swapped for a while with one of them this year on our big trip and I really liked the ride and the feel of the cruiser, just a lot more relaxed. Then, while waiting to pick up the 'Strom with her new tires I was checking out the cruisers and I fell in love with the Vstar (guess that's just wrong too). The prices have come down quite a bit and quite honestly I just never saw a cruiser that I liked that much. I've tried to be fair, the dealer has a great deal on a Kawi 1600 Nomad which from all reports is a great bike (2 of my buddies have the 1500), the equipment it has makes it a better deal, the wife likes the Nomad better, but looking at them side by side I just couldn't do it, the Nomad is a good looking girl, but the 'Star is a babe. So I'm shallow - sue me. Plus from all reports she's a great bike too. Hope we have a couple of more days without snow so I can at least break her in this year.
I am living in Newfoundland (St. John's). I purchased a new 08 1300 and love the bike. The only thing better then the bike is the scenery here on the island. Did 1000kms this past weekend tracking down icebergs. I will post some pics...
The count of Canadian riders is up to 13 [old math] and I’m pretty sure there are a few more.
[UPDATE - have just done a recount. New number is 19]
For Lichtik … I’m about 130 Kms east of Ottawa. Lived and worked in the "nations capital" for 15 years, until I retired in 2005.
For RodS … you should definitely ride to “The Rock”. I did a ride to Newf in 1999 and rode the TC from Port Aux Basque to St Johns [with a detour to Twillingate]. Then rode to Argentia for the trip back to the mainland. As well as some incredible scenery in the island, there is a hockey sock full of great motorcyling roads from coast to coast. I don’t think you’d be disappointed.
I'm from Winnipeg Manitoba. My dealer said he sold half a dozen 2008 1300 tourers this year alone, but I haven't seen another on the road yet... ~ kevin
Here I am located Down East, not as east as NFLD. ... here in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. I am a new rider, and got my 2007 2 tone silver 1300 T in June 07 as a birthday present. What a keeper wife I have. Already have 8700 km on the bike, and love to ride. I keep adding chrome and can hardly wait for Yama to come out with more add on's especially the lowers. Glad to find there are more 1300 riders here in Canada . For a while I thought we were an endangered 1300 T species here in the frozen tundra.
Canadian I am, Got my new 2008 vstar 1300 T (Black) in early June, this bike is amazing and i love to ride it..
Love the sound of those VH 2 into 1 pipes, not sure about the neighbours..

I'm currently living in Ontario, and the country roads are amazing to ride..
I'll be posting some pics soon..

Just got my new out of the box 07 1300T on June 5, and already got 3500K on it, ride every weekend with the brothers, And its nice to come home after a had day at work and ride up the highway for a hour to unwind, having a blast. I haven't had a bike sense my dirt bike days twenty years ago. Planning trips to Nova Scotia and PEI, this summer, and talking about even renting a trailer and hulling the bikes down south this winter to except the cold for a week or two.

I'm from The Rock (Nfld, for those of you who don't know that :)........I have a 2007 1300 T, silver, have added saddle bag guards/trim rails, OEM engine guards, Passenger billet floorboards, luggage rack and last Wed ordered the Buck's Lowers. Will also be ordering the Passing lamps and RSTD handlebars this week.
Bought the bike Oct 26/07. Put 1000 kms on it before I put it away for the Winter. Presently have 3000 kms......and just gettinmg started! First bike I ever owned and just started riding last Fall ......at the tender age of 54!!!

Hey Cykins, I was born on 'the rock' and moved out west at the ripe old age of 11. Been on this side a long time, guess it is time for a trip back since I still have family there. Maybe should ride. Hmmmmm.
Hello from another BC'er.
