Wal-mart Lights.

I installed these lights from Wally World. They are really bright. 55 watt same as OEM lights.
What does everyone think of the mounting location? I also thought of mounting them to the screws that hold the cover under the headlight.

Anyone know if the charging

Anyone know if the charging system can handle 4 lights (two under headlight, two under floorboards)? I beleive the alternator is rated at 460W/32.9A. 4 lights would add 200W but I don't really know what the static load on the alternator is with stock configuration (no other accessories).

Lights under the floorboards

I had some cheap rectangle Wal Mart lights under my floor boards, they worked great, lite up the road great. I like the big triangle effect. Only problem was the vibration of the boards got to one of the bulbs. And when I would drag the boards it was slowly grinding off the lights.

I used some used plastic that I had and made my own lowers with the memphis shades lowers brackets. I mounted another set of the chrome round Wal Mart lights to them. Working great so for, but the triangle effect is smaller. 55 watts each

Plus I replaced the front and back reflectors with LED lights, so far I have not had any charging or starting problems. Have ran the 1300 this way for about 5 or 6 monthes. unknown wattage, but small amount

Also replaced the Headlight bulb w/sylvania silverstar bulb 55watts

Moved my lights

They are so bright that I had to raise them so that I could aim them down and still have them light up the road in front of me. Cars aren't bothered by them, but if someone is riding in front of me they reflect in their mirrors and blind them. I am looking for a place to mount a switch. This way when we group ride I can turn them off.

driving lights

I also mounted my Wal Mart light to the signal light bracket, I used the small round ones though. I wired mine into the high beam wire that can be spliced into just under the front of the tank. That way, the driving lights are only on when beams are on high, I drive with low beams in groups unless I am leading. I just used the high beam wire coming from the handle bar light switch to activate my relay for the lights. Works for me.

Mounting under floorboards

I met a guy last week with what looked like the Walmart lights mounted to the bottom of his floorboards, and they looked surprisingly good there. This was on a Honda VTX which is a 1300 cc cruiser similar to ours.

Might be worth a try.

Mounting Position

That looks unique. Are they mounted directly to the forks? What did you use to mount them to, any drilling involved? It looks to me, looking at my bike, that you used the fender-to lower shock-bolt somehow? Any idea where to get replacement bulbs-just in case? Can we get a close up of the mount? Did your kit come with a toggle switch, if so how did you work around it to hook it up direct? Do you know if it is possible and/or practical to replace the bulb with led? Did or have you had any concerns about the draw on your electrical system?

I Used the mounts that came with the lights. They even have an adhesive foam piece that is the shape
of the bracket so they won't scratch your paint. I removed the front fender bolt and slid the bracket between the fender and the fork. They use a standard 55 watt H3 bulb found at any Wally World. This is the same bulb that comes with the OEM passing lights. The switch is the huge plastic lighted switch. I didn't use it. I wired it straight into the accessory plug, this way they are on when the bike is on. They are great so far. no vibration. I will and a small switch because a friend that rode in front of me at dusk called them aircraft landing lights. So I want a way to turn them off. I moved them up to the bolt that holds the cover on the turn signal bar. I am hoping that I can shine down the road further and not be as blinding. I will let you know which works better. I heard that LED's need a relay or they will pulse. Not sure about that one. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can answer that one. Hope this helps and I'll post some new pics soon.

I've been wanting to mount

I've been wanting to mount those lights as well, but am waiting to hear about how they work over time. Any problems from the vibrations down on the forks?

Nope

So far they have done great. I don't even see the light on the road bouncing or vibrating. Those are great lights. They have so many places to adjust them that no matter where you mount them they can be aimed where ever you need them. Plus they are metal with glass lenses. Best $20.00 I spent.

What did you wire them to?

What did you wire them to? Are they on when the bike is on or only when highbeams are on?

Hi Trey

I wired them to the hot side of the aux plug in the head light. This way they are on when the bike is on. I skinned the Green with blue stripe wire about 2 " back from the plug and soldered the light lead to it. I used the in line fuse that came with the lights. So they are double fused. One mistake I made. I pulled the wires too tight trying to hide them. When my forks extended it pulled the ground wire out of both lights. A little slack took care of that problem.

LIGHTS

looks good to me. I mounted mine (also walmart - the black ones with the clear lenses) to the amber reflector brackets, that also worked out well. Also added some highly reflective tape to the forks.

Can I see some pictures

Can I see some pictures of your lights? Take some showing the reflective tape too.

Reflectors

hey Mark, I found some "spot" reflector kits with self adhesive backs. There were white, red, amber, & green. About 1.5" diameter. I put 1 red on each saddle bag. Just stood back a few feet and decided where they would look best (in the most visible, attractive, etc manner), had the sig other hold it there to make sure, & slapped them on. Thought I might be ugly engineering it, but I think it looks okay. So I put another red in the center of the back of the sissy bar, and then put 2 of the white reflectors on the windshield mount for extra side reflection, just sort of centered them. I'll get photos when I can. Problem is, I can't remember where I got them! Wally world or The Depot.
