It is not a requirement to install a processor if you change your air kit/exhaust. The 1300 adapts pretty well. It is fair to say that many of us have opted to install them to achieve specific objectives. BTW, I'd highly recommend you look at the Cobra Fi2000 as opposed to the PC. A lot less expensive and, IMHO, better results. Many folks on this site have changed air kit/exhaust with no processor mods and do fine with that arrangement. I wanted the additional power the Fi2000 offers and it also eliminated the down-shift popping that I really didn't like. It will also smooth out the throttle response at low RPM.
