For those of you/us running Stabil gas stabilizer in your fuel tanks of all your different/assorted motorized vehicles, (but mostly our bikes).
Be aware. Stabil reacts BADLY with formulated fuels. Fuels (like all we have up here), with 10% alcohol is bad.......the ethanol (85%), IS VERY BAD.
Stabil is aware of the problem, and are (supposedly), working on a fix/chemical fix/whatever, but IN THE MEANTIME, IF you are adding Stabil to your fuel tanks, you better hope it's PURE fuel, (non alcohol mix, not even 10%).
LOTS of problems up here where the stabil is crystalizing in the fuel lines/carburetors (in our cases, INJECTORS), causing LOTS of runability/ (no run/crappy run, just BAD shit), happening.
SO< on that note, at this point I truly /highly recommend NOT running Stabil in your fuel tanks IF you're running any kind of formulated fuel, and not PURE/straight gasoline.
I posted this on another 1300 site, thought I'd share it with this one as well.
I used Stabil in my
I used Stabil in my carbureted Suzuki S50, but not in my 1300T, since it's fuel injected.
Stabil no problem
I live in Wisconsin and have used Stabil for winter storage in 4 different motorcycles and my lawnmower, over several years, with no problems at all. (we have 10% ethanol in our gas) Guess I got lucky?
Seems to be
Stabil is making a product geared for marine use. More than likely the product will cover both 2 cycle and 4 cycle engines. The Inboard outboard large displacement engines will probably all have fuel separators by now which takes out the water. But Stabil must be aiming their product for those kinds of engines that may only see use a couple times a year if that. Should be interesting to see what comes up to keep fuel fresh, or at the very least still explosive. I run my bike every couple of weeks during the winter months to keep the injectors clean. What is nice about Yamaha is that they build engines to work all over the world with varying fuel qualities. We just have to watch and see what happens. We may eventually end up fogging our engines and draining the gas out of the tank, then running the rest out of the lines. ~ Butch
stabil - oh crap!
I already put the stabil in the bike and the bike in the stable. this sounds really bad ~ kevin
Way down south
Reckon the problems that DStang talked about are specific to the north country[Canada]? Although I am not sure what fuel I have fueled with I have used Stabil for several years with no problems

we get the alcohol blended
we get the alcohol blended fuels in Oklahoma. Most places here sell the 90/10 blend, but state law requires a sign on the pump stating there is alcohol in the gas. Lots are stations are selling 100% gasoline - and they all have a banner or sign out front. 100% is about a dime / gallon more expensive. Bike and truck run better on it tho....................paul
Stabil!
Drag79Stang,
Thanks for the heads up! I do not use Stabil in my V Star but was just about to load up 80 Gal of fuel in my boat with Stabil for the winter!! I am not sure if the fuel station I fuel the boat supplies pure fuel or not .....anyway...gotta go and check for sure.
Thanks DSTANG,

Non Oxygenated fuel
Minnesota was the first state to go to gasehol. However there are fuel stations that have 91 octane nonoxygenated fuels for use in motorcycles, lawnmowers, chainsaws, farm equipment and antique cars. Look for the sign on the gas pump. In June of 1984 "regular" gasoline did not have enough lead in it to be a lubricant. By 1987 when alcohol was added to the fuels older engines suffered and needed octane boosters and lead replacement additives. Rubber hoses went to heck along with gaskets. Mostly two stroke engines suffered. Minnesota will be on 15% gasehol very soon as the base fuel. Hopefully there will still be non oxygenated fuel available. ~ Butch
