WE SHALL NEVER FORGET

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of the end of “The War to end all Wars.” An Armistice was declared on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918. In Canada we observe “Remembrance Day”, in the USA “Veterans Day”.

I salute all those who serve in the Armed Forces of their country and I vow to never forget those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we all too often take for granted.

The following poem was penned by a Canadian Army surgeon [John McCrae] on May 15, 1918
the day after he witnessed the death of his best friend.
----
In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders Fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders Fields.

as much as I am a proud

as much as I am a proud Canadian, it just disgusts me that not all provinces in this country see fit to observe Remembrance Day.

Bravo!

I wish those North American boys from WWI would be remembered more often.
