Also depends...
I have a shorty for the spring/summer months, and a full face HJC for the cooler times.
Although when I have the full face on, I have to pay more attention to the speedo. I have a tendancy to ride and shift to the sound of the engine.
Over all, I do prefer the shorty. Just to be able to hear a little better to what is surrounding me.

Helmets
I have three helmets. My favorite that I wear most of the time is an HJC Symax modular. I just like the way it feels and it offers good protection with the ability to flip it up at gas stations, for drinks etc. One thing I discovered on my recent trip was that you should not flip the chin bar up in front of your eyes to take gum out of your mouth, especially in a single lane construction zone....
Ride safe.

Depends
I've got a shorty, an open face and a full face. All made by HJC 'cause their the only manufacturer that makes a helmet to fit my triple wide dome. I like to feel the rush of the air in my face so I'll wear the short and open face more than the full face. I actually use the full face when its extremely warm to keep the hot air off my face. The full face face also slows the down the rate of evaporation rate when I use my special neck thingy (with the crystals).

Ditto that
Selecting a helmet can be a bit of a dilema. I like the wind in my face, and sometimes would rather have the protection of a full face helmet. The CL-Max is my choice.

I agree with shorty
Shorty is the way to go for me too. Either warm or cool I always wear a shorty.
Dave
Both (depending on weather)
Depending on the weather, I wear either a full face or 1/2. If it is going to be nice later in the day, I'll wear the 1/2 with a face mask. If it's gonna be cold (cool) all day, I'll wear my full.
shorty is the way to go,
shorty is the way to go, even when it gets cold, I prefer it over full faced
Variable
With the cooler weather here in Texas, it's full-face only for me. As things heat up I may switch to my half-helmet or get an open face....or maybe not; While I don't have a glass jaw, it's no match for pavement or some other things I might encounter during an unexpected journey off the bike.
Need more helmets!
When I ride into Dallas, I wear my Nolan N102 Modular helmet.
When in Rockwall, I wear a doo-rag, or nothing, or a Vega 3/4 with no face shield.
Would like to get a nice Skid Lid

I currently wear full face
I currently wear full face 100% of the time but have been waffling with the idea of getting a shorty for the scenic rides and hot summers. Back in 2006 I had a wreck on my 650 custom. I use the same helmet today from that wreck. I have a constant reminder what a full face does for you. The only damage to the helmet is a scrape on the left chin. I am pretty sure I would have ended up with a broken jaw added to the list of my other injuries if I had been wearing a shorty helmet that day. The scrape on my full face helmet is the only thing keeping me from buying a shorty so quickly.

Glad you came out OK
Hey Trey!
Glad you came out with no worse than that. I guess I'm fortunate in that I haven't been in an accident. Plenty of close calls, though, and I've had friends & family that have been seriously injured and killed.
You did mention you're using the same helmet now, though. I know helmets can be expensive, but I might suggest you replace it. The way it was explained to me is that helmets are single-use items. Once they've suffered an impact, they're done. Even dropping one while carrying it should be replaced. From what I understand, the material inside is designed to absorb the impact and doesn't recover, so the protection will always be weak in that spot afterwards. And yes, I've replaced a helmet after dropping it. I accidentally kicked the stupid thing off the passenger pillion while getting on one time. What really sucked was that it was less than 2 mos old.
I'm sure plenty here will chime in with their thoughts on this subject. I'd be interested to hear what others think or have heard.

Hey Boomer. Thanks for the
Hey Boomer. Thanks for the advice in regards to replacing the helmet. In my case I am confident that the damage to the helmet is more of a scrape across the road instead of an actual impact. Plus the damage is in small spot on the chin. If I had more of an impact on the head, I would definitely consider replacing it.
I did come out lucky but I did have more injuries. This one wreck caused me to have a broken left shoulder, sprained right wrist, sprained left ankle, road rash on my right fore arm, deep road rash (now a battle scar!) on my right elbow, and a deep road rash (another battle scar!) on my left knee.
It was very scary at the time and it felt like that body would not come to a stop from skidding, rolling, and bouncing across the pavement. After a few hours in the hospital, x-rays, shoulder harness, wrist brace, and ankle boot I was sent home to recover. I have since recovered well with the exception of an periodic achey shoulder.
My wreck occured in August 2006. I was pretty close to ready to get back on when the injuries healed. The wife was not quite ready at that point. My 650 was totaled and I had the agony of paying the balance of the loan that the insurance did not cover.
Very early Spring 2008 we started seeing more and more motorcycles on the road and both of us were missing it terribly. Yes, the wife was ready for me to ride again and was ready to get on the back again (luckily she was not involved in the wreck). We were on our way home from camping at Lake Texoma in mid May 2008. As we got closer to Dallas my wife made the comment that the Yamaha dealership was just a few more exits away and maybe we could stop and take a look at what they had. Believe me, I am not good at subtle women hints but this one I clued in on loud and clear. I took the exit, looked at the bikes, test rode the used 2007 1300 and fell in love. We left to look at two other Yamaha dealers between this one and home, ate lunch, called the sales person that had the 1300 and told him that if he could get us out the door under a certain price we would return that day to finalize the deal. Sure enough, he did. We went back and finalized the deal. Keep in mind that this was a used bike. I still do not understand why someone would return/trade only after approximately one year. The bonus of the deal was that the stock exhaust had a very small ding in it on the underside that I did not see but the sales guy spotted it and he checked with the service department and told me that they would call me as soon as someone came in to have their stock exhaust removed for after-markets and they would put the good stock exhaust onto my bike at no charge!
Needless to say I have truly been loving this bike. It is so much better than the 650 I had. I am grateful for the 650 because that was my first ever bike and it was good to learn on. My wife is loving the 1300 too with its bigger seats and more room.

Ouch!
Ah geez, man that sounds like a serious hurt.
You're wife is definitely a keeper! Mine has always hated me riding, and if something happens to me I'll never hear the end of it. :P
I still can't believe how many of us traded up from the 650 to the 1300. I had the 650 Classic and really liked it, but with it I lived in a smaller community and all my riding was in town. Even my commute to work was basically a residential rode. Now that I've moved to OKC and ride the interstate a lot, I was wanting a bigger bike to hold my own with against traffic. The 1300 does that in spades!
Enjoy the ride!

Addictions
Busted. I have a fetish for different helmets.
1. My favorite is the Arai, best feeling helmet I have ever owned. Have three of them. Two Quantium e and a Quanium f
2. Vega Summit modular.
3 Shuberth modular.
4. Matching Bell Tour lite 3/4 open face.
5. Matching HJC 3/4 open face.
6. Scorpion 1/2 with flip down visor.
Lets NOT talk about jackets and riding pants. My wife says I need a 12 step program for my MC addictions. I told her it was cheaper than bass boats or girl friends. LOL
Depends on the Weather
If my ears get cold, I wear a half-helmet that I carry in one saddle-bag. Otherwise, I let 'em flap. I can't justify not wearing a helmet...I just enjoy it. Something about freedom. Yet, I never ride without gloves. Oxymoronic, huh?
Capt J
I agree
I feel guilty about not wearing a helmet--but unless I hit a state that requires it I don't.
But I wear a HJC "Blade" shorty when I have to. :)
